WordPress cookbook at the ready!

I have been so accustomed to building my own simple sites from the ground up over the years that have not yet set aside time to familiarize myself with WordPress as a customizable CMS platform.
Thinking of WordPress as something more than just a simple blog site, and more as a development platform seems to be a growing trend among designers today. So tonight, after a long day of freelancing, I’ve decided to treat myself to an afternoon of training and build my first custom WordPress template from scratch! Better late than never I suppose! I suspect it’s going to be a long night… but the lesson is long overdue. Stay tuned.
Client Profile: Camden Commons

Camden Commons has always been one of my favorite spots in town so when I was given the opportunity to give their website a facelift I was very excited.
Camden Commons is popular location here in Franklin, TN. It’s a mixed-use upscale area comprised of rented lofts and retail space. I’ve personally spent a lot of time hanging out in some of the restaurants that call this place home, like Sopapilla’s and Mack and Kate’s. But like many small business owners, they had fallen victim to website abandonment. Years ago they had paid a third party company to build a website not understanding fully how to manage it. Money was thrown down the drain and the site remained unfinished for over 2 years.
For Camden Commons, I built a simple multi-page site using HTML, CSS3, PHP & jQuery. I snapped some updated photos of the complex and recreated their logo. The client was so pleased that he even contacted me a few weeks later after it’s initial launch for letterhead, parking passes and a Facebook page.
So take a peek at the the new and improved CamdenCommons.com … and don’t forget to check them out in person too if you are looking for a swanky place to live or an awesome meal!
V2.0 Coming Soon
Article post on November, 12th, 2012 at 11:59 pm
Things are looking sparse around here. As you may notice, I’ve just moved into my new web site and I haven’t gotten a chance to decorate. While I unpack, allow me to introduce myself.
I am a graphic artist/computer nerd from Knoxville, TN. I am 27 years old and have been freelancing for nearly a decade. I currently live in the Franklin, TN area where I work full time as the GFX developer for The Coin Vault, I am engaged to fellow nerd, James Overholt. My skills include print media, web design and live broadcast GFX. My clients are from all over Middle and East Tennessee, and if you stay awhile, you will get the chance to meet them as I showcase my work, and their businesses, right here on this blog!
So make yourself comfortable as I move in and transform this site into MorganAkens.com v2.0. Oh and hey while we wait – would you mind calling in a pizza?
